Robert Singer Daniel H. Blatt [1]. Cujo by Stephen King. When Donna and her young son, Tad, drive out to the home where Cujo and the Cambers live, the gentle Cujo has been driven insane by rabies and has killed Joe and the Cambers' neighbor.
Making matters worse, their car battery dies at the Cambers' house. Donna and Ted are trapped inside while the massive dog waits outside, attacking repeatedly, all while Vic is out of town on a business trip.
Cujo brutally kills anyone and everyone who comes to the house, including the local Sheriff. Eventually Donna makes an attempt to dash for the house but is attacked by Cujo, the only safety being the car.
After a brutal struggle between the desperate mother and the relentless animal, Donna takes advantage of a momentary distraction and beats Cujo with a baseball bat and then stabs him with the handle when the bat breaks.
After Donna manages to revive her son, who had passed out due to the extreme heat, Cujo tears through the kitchen window and launches himself at the two.
Donna kills Cujo with the dead Sheriff's revolver.
Later, Donna takes advantage of a momentary distraction and hits Cujo with a baseball bat until it breaks, leaving only a jagged handle. According to King, the novel was partly inspired by his trip to a mechanic during the spring of The story takes place in the setting for many King stories: the fictional town of Castle Rock , Maine.
Revolving around two local families, the narrative is interspersed with vignettes from the seemingly mundane lives of various other residents.
There are no chapter headings, but breaks between passages indicate when the narration switches to a different perspective. Vic Trenton discovers his wife, Donna, has recently had an affair with a tennis player named Steve Kemp.
In the midst of this household tension, Vic's advertising agency, Ad Worx, is failing due to a scandal over a cereal called Red Razberry Zingers.
Vic, and his business partner Roger Breakstone, are forced to travel out of town, leaving Tad and Donna at home alone.

A bat bites him on the nose and infects him with rabies. Donna, home alone with Tad, takes their failing Ford Pinto to the Cambers' for repairs.
The car breaks down in Camber's dooryard, and as Donna attempts to find Joe, Cujo appears and attacks her. She climbs back in the car as Cujo starts to attack.
Donna and Tad are trapped in their vehicle, the interior of which becomes increasingly hot in the summer sun. During one escape attempt, Donna is bitten in the stomach and leg, but manages to survive and escape back into the car.
